There are several type of medications that are used to manage disease involving mouth to treat conditions like pain, infections, anxiety etc. It is very important to know the signs and symptoms of the patient to give appropriate management and medications. Most commonly reported complication is pain, swelling and infection.


Pain management plays an important role in dentistry. Analgesics (pain killers) are prescribed depending upon the intensity of pain felt by the patient. The most common drugs prescribed by the dentist are:


  • Zerodol p (paracetamol & aceclofenac)
  • Dolo 650 (paracetamol)
  • Imol plus

Second major problems seen is infection like decay, dental abscess, periodontal infections, infection around the tooth. Antibiotics such as amoxicillin, augmentin, ciploxtz are commonly used in dental practice. Clindamycin is used to treat infections caused by anerobic bacteria which is more effective for abscess n bone and soft tissue. Periogard is an antibiotic used in gingivitis or periodontitis. Drug such as Mycostatin is used to treat candidiasis caused by candida albicans.
