Gum recession is a very common dental problem that too among the adult population. It is the process in which gums begin to lower and pull back, exposing more of the tooth structure and its root. When gum recedes, pockets or gaps form between the teeth and along the gum lines.


Consequences

  1. When gums recede, disease causing bacteria can build up in these areas and cleaning can become difficult due to increased sensitivity.
  2. If left untreated the supporting tissue and bone structures surrounding the teeth can be severely damaged.

  2. Avoid aggressive tooth brushing.

  4. Take steps to prevent or reduce teeth grinding
  5. Fix crooked teeth or a mal-aligned bite.
  6. Avoid piercing your tongue or lip, as the jewellery can rub and irritate the gums
  7. Avoid using tobacco products.
